Meet Your Trainers

All of our trainers are accomplished athletes in a variety of sports but most importantly for you they bring a wealth of professional and academic experience to their work as trainers.  They love what they do every day and it shows in their attention to detail, motivation and effective leadership styles on the gym floor.

Jackie Lind

Jackie Lind knows a thing or two about training and has been working as a trainer and group exercise instructor since the late 1990’s. Jackie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team.  You will love her positive energy and the fun vibe she brings to all the workouts she leads!

Lindsay Tucker

Lindsay comes to coaching by way of a winding career in molecular biology and computer science. A competitive athlete most of her adult-life, she defines herself as aggressively mediocre at a lot of things: she raced bikes at the elite/pro level, has run ultras for 15 years (50k-100mi) and even dabbled in trigeekery/Ironman. She is a former alpine climbing instructor with the Seattle Mountaineers and has climbed in the Himalayas, Andes and Wadi Rum, Jordan. Lindsay raced City League for a number of years, enjoys ski touring, Nordic skiing and bribing her two little girls with snacks on the bunny slopes of Mt. Baker (the ultimate endurance sport).

As a graduate student in clinical mental health counseling, she is passionate about movement being a part of everyone’s mental health toolkit. Lindsay is an RYT-200 and trauma-informed yoga instructor and coaches endurance athletes with Cascade Endurance. Lindsay completed the Moab 240 Ultra trail run in October 2021 and can be found training in the Cascades.

Cathy Downs

Cathy graduated from Western Washington University in 2006 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science and spent the past 13 years working as a Wellness Specialist for The Boeing Company. She recently moved back to Bellingham with her husband and two kids, age five and two and a half. “I love to be outdoors, especially on my mountain bike and I’ve spent a number of years racing bikes in various disciplines. I also enjoy hiking, backpacking and do a bit of backcountry skiing and mountaineering when time and life allows. I look forward to working with the Trailhead community!”

Derek Shiers

I have spent much of my professional life coaching people and helping them develop a strong knowledge base. Years managing a large territory of our northwestern states and Western Canada, I have firsthand experience balancing a career with the training demands of competitive sport. I came to fitness training because I love applying my knowledge, training and sense of humor in guiding others to reach their fitness potential.

With an amateur bike racing career spanning twenty years I have been fortunate to race road, cyclocross, XC and Enduro at an expert level here in North America and in Europe. as well as Ski to Sea locally (naively choosing the downhill run leg, much to the relief of my teammates)! If I’m not on one of my bicycles, you’re likely to see me running trails with the dogs or heading out for a ski.

Who has time to spin their wheels at a gym? I believe in spending as much time outside as possible, but I know that I need to workout to stay strong, especially as I age. I don’t have time to get injured and I want to be strong for my sports. I want your workouts to be functional, fun and fast.

Nicola Mann

Before moving to Bellingham I was co-owner of Body & Soul Health and Fitness in Vancouver, BC (Vancouver’s largest studio). With several personal training certifications (ACE, ACSM, BCRPA) and 20 years of professional training experience, I expanded my knowledge base from competitive cycling and took a certification as a USCF Expert Level cycling coach & and run both group and individual mountain bike workshops each year.

In fact, it was the outdoor lifestyle that brought us to Bellingham and I am determined to enjoy all the adventure it has to offer. I also realize that I have one body for this life and it allows me to do more when I keep it healthy. I have experienced myself the beneficial effects of strength training on my sports performance, whether it’s on the bike, skis or trails. I love sharing what I have learned about functional training over the years and the benefits of the targeted workouts we have created at Trailhead.
